EVENTS FOR MARCH 2010

LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS AND BIBLE STUDY
Throughout March, we will have a Lenten soup supper in the Chapel Hall each Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. There is a sign-up sheet in Chapel Hall for people to provide the soup and accompaniments each week. Following supper, we will move to the Parlor for a Bible study on the topic for the upcoming Sunday. We invite everyone to join us for all of these events, or for one or more weeks as you are able.

SUNDAY, MAR. 21  ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The annual congregational meeting of the Community Church of Little Neck will be coming up on Sunday, March 21, beginning at Noon. Please plan now to be on hand for this important event in the life of our church, as we receive and approve reports from the year past and elect officers, adopt a budget, and make plans for our ministry in the coming year. It is critical that we have as many of our members as possible present for this meeting, as there are crucial decisions to be made.

SUNDAY, MAR. 21  INTERFAITH OPPORTUNITY
We did get our Interfaith Dialogue re-started in January, and now we want to keep it going. Our meeting this month is scheduled for Sunday, March 21 at 8:00 PM here at the Community Church of Little Neck. In February, Rabbi Greene gave us an overview of Jewish liturgy so we could better understand how their services are conducted. This month. Pastor Drake will return the favor and make a presentation on Christian liturgy and worship.  Please join us for this fascinating opportunity for an exchange of information and faith.

SUNDAY, MAR. 28  FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
We will have a Family Movie Night the evening of Palm Sunday, March 28, beginning at 7:00 PM. We will view the film "Jesus Christ Superstar", in keeping with the Holy Week date. Once again, refreshments will be provided. Our discussion will center on how the Passion of our Lord and the Easter story have been presented indifferent forms in each generation.

APRIL 1  MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE
This year, we will be hosting our friends from North Shore Presbyterian Church for a Maundy Thursday service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae (Shadows) on Thursday, April 1 at 7:30 PM. We hope everyone will join us for this meaningful and moving service of worship during Holy Week.

APRIL 2  GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE
Community Church of Douglaston at 8:00 PM.  During this traditional Good Friday Service the choir and soloists will be heard in works such as "Redentore" from Verdi's Requiem, quartet from Rossini's Stabat Mater, "God So Loved the World" from Stainer's Crucifixion, Graun's motet, "He Was Despised", Schubert's "Stabat Mater in g minor" and otherworks. These pieces will be paired with scripture readings illustrating the "Via Dolorosa" or the "Road of Sorrows" following Christ's journey from Gethsemane to the Cross.

APRIL 4  EASTER SUNDAY SERVICES
We will once again hold an Easter Sunrise Service in the courtyard, beginning at 6:30 AM. The official time for sunrise on April 4 this year is 6:35 AM, so we will begin just before dawn and enjoy seeing the sunrise as the service proceeds. Following that service, we will have a light Easter breakfast of jelly bean eggs, rolls, tea or coffee, milk, and juice in the Chapel Hall. We will not have Bible School on Easter Sunday, but encourage our students and parents to participate in the Sunrise Service and breakfast.  Our Easter Celebration with the choir and organ will take place at our usual service time, beginning at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary. Everyone is invited to join us for these festive |events celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
